Diagnostic X-Ray and Fluoroscopy

X-ray refers to procedures that use standard x-rays to view various parts of the body. In all procedures, a very low dose of radiation is used, which makes x-rays an extremely safe diagnostic tool. During an x-ray radiation is absorbed by the more dense parts of your body, which produces a lighter image on the picture, called a radiograph. The less dense parts of the body absorb less radiation and appear dark on the x-ray.

Conventional diagnostic x-ray is a simple, painless procedure that allows the radiologist to analyze the bony and soft tissue anatomy for diagnosis. Common x-rays include chest, bones, digestive systems studies and IVP. There is no prep involved in preparing for a conventional x-ray.

Fluoroscopy uses a fluoroscope to view the internal organs of the body. It is extremely helpful in vascular, spinal and gynecological procedures as well as diagnosing digestive tract and kidney conditions. A contrast agent is used to amplify the area of interest. View more about Fluorscopy...

Arthrography basically means injection of contrast (dye) into a joint. Once the contrast  is injected, the radiologist takes fluoroscopic spot films (x-rays) to document the correct position of the contrast in the desired joint. Since the widespread use of CT and MRI,an arthrogram is now only rarely performed as a sole diagnostic test.  View more about Arthrograms...
